First-Aid treatment for burns
First-Aid recommendations vary depending on which country you are located in, so please check your local recommendations.
-
Goal is fast, effective first aid
-
Remove all jewellery and any clothing (that is not stuck) from the burn area
-
Run cool running water over affected area for at least 20 minutes (in Australia)
-
Apply Burnex Hydrogel or burn dressing post initial cooling – or immediately if water is not available
-
Do not use butter, toothpaste, creams or ointments as these do not cool the burn
-
Do not use ice as it can lead to further tissue damage
-
Seek immediate medical attention if the burn is severe or covers an area larger than a 20-cent piece for a child, or the size of the palm of a hand for an adult.
In Australia – refer to ANZBA guidelines
Using Burnex Burn Hydrogel Dressings
-
Developed to provide quick and effective first aid for burns, to allow:
-
Ease of transport to specialist care
-
Ease of removal – water soluble and non-adherent, so can be readily removed and any residual gel rinsed off
-
Ease of burn assessment.
-
-
Contains in excess of 90% water trapped in a proprietary gel and is specifically designed to cool and help provide pain relief
-
The hydrogel acts as a ‘heat sink’ drawing heat out of the burn to provide evaporative cooling and donates moisture to the site to provide an ideal, moist healing environment
-
Dressings provide a barrier against contamination
-
Water soluble and non-adherent, so can be readily removed and any residual gel rinsed off.
